About the Role
The Technical Operations Manager leads the underwriting teams responsible for managing technical support to Personal Lines business within FBD. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in supporting profitable growth in the Branch, Consumer, Partnership and Motor Schemes channels.
Job Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Head of Technical Underwriting, this individual will be responsible for managing and developing the Personal Lines underwriting teams supporting branch, consumer and partnership channels.
- Drive capability development and create a high performance culture, managing and mentoring Personal Lines underwriters.
- Ensure that technical capabilities are developed within teams and available to support profitable growth, product development and QA activities.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in adherence with the FBD Underwriting Policy, protecting FBD through close monitoring of business quality.
- Ensure that all regulatory requirements are adhered to with respect to renewals, new business and other areas of responsibility.
- Lead underwriting operational excellence including identifying opportunities for continuous improvement to processes and efficiency in FBD’s Personal Lines underwriting operations teams.
- Working closely with Sales to develop and agree service level agreements for referrals and manage service in line with these targets. Ensure appropriate MI is available to manage and monitor resource capacity and support those agreed service levels.
- Foster continuous communication between the sales, claims and underwriting teams to support their combined effectiveness. Work closely with other teams across underwriting to foster a culture of collaboration.
- Support the FBD strategy and ensure that Personal Lines is well positioned to support strategy implementation.
- Form an active part of the Personal Lines management team and contribute to underwriting and pricing strategy.
- Support and lead where operational changes arise from new product development, regulatory changes, the introduction of new channels and partnerships.
Education
- Achieved a professional insurance qualification to the level of Advanced Diploma in Insurance Management (MDI)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Experiences
- A minimum of 5 years Underwriting experience with strong understanding of Underwriting processes and principles.
- A proven record of managing operational teams including people leadership and mentoring experience.
- A collegiate approach and the ability to work effectively with others to ensure the realisation of FBD’s goals.
