Job Overview

The role will mainly involve working in the field assessing risks at customer locations, while gathering relevant information, reviewing documentation and identifying risks concerns and suggested solutions for underwriting colleagues and agreeing solutions with our customers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Undertaking detailed property and liability risk surveys on medium to large and complex commercial insurance new business propositions and existing business customers.
  • Providing objective risk assessments of risks and to identify risk management solutions and advice.
  • Writing up reports and provide risk improvement requirements and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Escalating issues of concern to more senior team member as appropriate.
  • Managing customer interactions in an effective and timely manner.
  • Developing positive relationship with customers.
  • Risk assessing and researching risk associated with complex and novel risks.
  • Providing technical advice and guidance to colleagues, the business and customers.

Job Responsibilities

Education

Relevant Third Level degree or appropriate professional qualifications (Insurance and/ or Construction and/ or Engineering and/ or Science and/ or Health and Safety).

Experiences

Relevant experience in Insurance and ideally risk surveying/accessing.

Competencies

  • Must be technically competent to extent that role requires surveyor to visit customer risks and evaluate the risk and identify appropriate Risk improvements.
  • Ability to distinguish between acceptable trade hazards and unacceptable risk hazards requiring management.
  • Ability to prioritize risk improvements, distinguish between which improvements are recommendations and which if any are requirements.
  • Ability to determine and agree solutions to hazards which are appropriate to risk presented taking into consideration the financial cost to customers in implementing risks and benefit to be achieved as a result both to insurer and directly accruing to the customer themselves.
  • Effective communication and collaborative skills. There will regularly be  need to coordinate and drive efforts between customers, professional advisors such as architects, process engineers, broker and colleagues in determining optimum solution for a risk problem.
  • The ability to plan and co-ordinate short/medium/long term tasks and actions related to the role.
  • Need to be mobile and physically fit to complete significant travel and hold a Full Clean Driver’s Licence.
  • Be flexible to facilitate requests at short notice, particularly those for pre quotation surveys.
  • Significant requirement for continuous self development in context of requirement to keep abreast of evolving Building, Environmental and Safety regulations and their corresponding impact on all of the various classes of business within the underwriting risk appetite.
